It took a few moments for him to process what had happened earlier-Link and Zelda being pulled away in a whirlwind, the citizens of Skyloft caught up in the commotion, Groose rushing in to help to no made his stomach swirl with guilt. There was no dream, just the sickly sensation of waking up from an accidental nap. Groose opened his eyes, entire body groggy and aching. Zelda should have gone down to the surface alone, a destinial switch should have flipped, and the fate chosen by the goddesses should have been set into motion. Right about now, a hero should have been having a strange, prophetic dream about great demons and reincarnated goddesses. He choked on his breath, desperately trying to build the courage to call his loftwing once more and press forwardвЂ¦but courage had never been GrooseвЂ™s forte, had it?Д«ut was it too terrible to imagine just for a second that he could be?ДЄs the heavy winds beat against his back, the voices of the citizens behind him, and ZeldaвЂ™s cry still rang in his ears, his senses felt fuzzy against the wind and the cool air until he could see and feel nothing but darkness. His bird grew closer to the swirling winds, trying to maneuver his loftwing to where the others could have fallen, but the bird jumped back, sending Groose flying in empty air. He didnвЂ™t choose to jump off the island, to whistle for his loftwing and head straight for the hurricane. In that moment, GrooseвЂ™s body moved on its own. In a split second, the two were engulfed by the wind, the only sound overpowering the rapid air being ZeldaвЂ™s final cry. He thought he could see the group of instructors dash forward in the mess. Groose felt blinded by the wind, the gusts kicked up pebbles and rocks everywhere. вЂњWhy isn't anyone doing anything?!вЂќ he heard someone call out. It was close, too close- they didnвЂ™t have enough time to swivel out of the way. Their loftwings held back, cawing loudly as the pair in the sky struggled to hold on. вЂњZelda!вЂќ Groose heard one of the instructors call out as dusty wind clouded his vision, вЂњZELDA! LINK!вЂќ What did matter was that it was swirling violently right in front of Zelda and Link. Groose snapped his head in the direction of the instructors, who seemed just as shocked as he was.ДЄ tornado started forming, one that was. The wind suddenly picked up, and something black and looming formed right before his very eyes. In the blink of an eye, something felt different in the air. It doesnвЂ™t matter how or why it happened right then, but it did. Perhaps Hylia decided to grant GrooseвЂ™s wish-or maybe it was just an unfortunate coincidence. вЂњI hope the worst possible shit in the world happens to you. Maybe he didnвЂ™t entirely mean what he said next, but he couldnвЂ™t help it as the words came flying out of his mouth. Stop getting in the way of me and Zelda.вЂќ вЂњFuckinвЂ™ LinkвЂ¦вЂќ Groose mumbled, kicking another pebble off the side of the floating island, вЂњI wish youвЂ™d just fucking leave for once. HeвЂ™d learned to tune it out after living here all his life, but that didnвЂ™t stop it from being irritating in times like these. Groose was too far away to tell what, and the loud wind that blew around the skyloft all day and night didnвЂ™t help. The least they could do was get a room, if not for his sake. Groose could see them in the distance-floating through the sky, their birds practically touching wings. The most he got was a smile of pity from Zelda as she and Link headed off to fly together.ДЄt least she was nice enough to give him that. Groose should be flying with them, being congratulated on his victory.

Clouds floated among the endless blue, and knights riding their loftwings zipped past. In front of him was the wide open sky, stretching for what seemed like eternity. Groose kicked at a pebble beside his feet. Just because he had some special rare crimson loftwing didnвЂ™t make him better! Maybe LinkвЂ™s loftwing was superficially special, but Groose and his loftwing had matching necklaces. It was bullshit-Groose was so much better, so why did that dumbass get to claim victory?

But that loser Link had to steal his thunder- and his girl.ДЄlright, maybe Zelda wasnвЂ™t his girl yet, but if heвЂ™d won the stupid ceremony, she surely would have seen his worth. He was going to win, take ZeldaвЂ™s cool cloth as reward, and finally get the girl of his dreams. He was so fucking close to winning that wing ceremony.
